The sea is the symbol of the unconscious
Dreams have always played a big part in Anna Julkunen’s life. Growing up she would hear stories about her late grandmother who was said to be able to predict the future through them. During the last years, Julkunen has kept a record of her dreams, to learn more about the phenomenon and the methods of interpreting them through symbols in Finnish mythology. In the work The sea is the symbol of the unconscious, she tries to answer questions like; if it is possible to re-create what we see in our dreams, and what can they teach us about ourselves? Are symbols in dreams something that we can inherit and in that case, are dreams something that connects all of us?
